Round Top or Bust

I’m tired.
Last Wednesday was a super long day – I’m only just now recovering. I got the see both the sunrise and the sunset – and both while on the road laughing with friends.
We went to Roundtop, Texas for the first day of their twice yearly antiques show. Wow! I’ve never seen a “flea market” like it. It went on for miles and miles and there was some pretty incredible junque there.
Tori-Dean-do-Round-Top
Some of it was outrageously priced, like the tiny primitive step stool/bench for $220 (they said the green paint was “rare”) and the small wire ferris-wheel (which I'm STILL dreaming about) designed to hold shot glasses for a measly $995. But you never know when someone like Tori Spelling will happen by and purchase your outrageously priced old stuff… We didn’t actually see Tori (and Dean), but many of the vendors were all atwitter about her being there with her family and a small crew. I did find this photo on another blog of Tori and the g-uncles shopping at Marburger Farms.
Marburger was the first place we hit when we arrived just shortly after 9 AM. (after about a three hour drive… yes… my alarm went off at 4:30 AM for this “shopping” trip. That, my friends, is dedication.)
If you’d like to know more about Marburger Farms (which is a very small part of the miles long antiques show)  view this little video clip. Even if  you're not a big spender, Marburger is worth the visit. The displays alone are inspiring. And look carefully, even someone from a one income household like me can find some affordable treasures tucked here and there.

After we collected super cool ideas (and one new purple teacup) we relocated the car and hit the tents and booths in other, more affordable, parts of the faire. I picked up a few new plates and ended up with two new cups and saucers, plus a little open bowl sugar and creamer my friend Dee Ann found for me. (I discovered I was a little short on purple china which is my theme color for my upcoming Royal Wedding parties… thus the search.)

My super cool find of the day, (which has been on my list for a long time now) is my new coffee “table”.
Here’s my old one, which I still like, but didn’t really fit the look I was going for. It’s great because it stores so much (currently it’s filled with linens) so it found a new home in our school room in front of the sofa in there.DSCN0247
And here’s the NEW one. I’m totally in love. DSCN0258
I’m fairly certain it will be the new home for all the wii games and accessories. See the spot for the padlock on the front. And I love the well worn patina. Perfect, I tell you.

I wonder what was shipped in it a long time ago? I hope it wasn’t arms to some foreign country or something…
Next on my list is to replace that awful dated and worn out sofa.
On the way home we stopped for a bit of BBQ at Rudy’s – home of the “worst” bar-b-que. I’m not sure what that’s about cuz I think it’s pretty good. It’s not KC BBQ but it’ll do in a pinch. We had the added treat of being in the presence of greatness. At least, we think we were… we’re not exactly sure. We had a very strong suspicion that we waited in line with a couple of San Antonio Spurs. Please excuse my blurry paparazzi type photo. You’re lucky it wasn’t a photo of a very large palm. I’m pretty sure these guys thought we we’re novice stalkers.

One of us, (who shall remain nameless - but I'll link you to her here...) had the nerve to ask the short one (who probably wasn't much over 7'4") if he played basketball. Really? That's all you've got? I think a better question might be, "did your momma breastfeed you, cuz you're sure a tall drink of water?" In her defense, she did tell him he could ask her anything he wanted, but surprisingly he passed on that opportunity.

When the “short one” put his hands on his hips his elbow was in line with my ear… and I’m not a short girl by any means.
Really – we have no idea who these guys are… They just might be really tall guys that live in a championship basketball town.
So that was our big celebrity (or maybe not) filled day. Us homeschool moms can be just a touch nerdy at times...
By Sunday things were back to normal around here. We spent the day ticking items off the “honey-do list” and got quite a bit done. Things that have been on the list since I started it six plus years ago. We finished the day by celebrating the 119th birthday of the ice cream sundae. If you missed it, you have my permission to celebrate today.
What did you do this weekend?

  6. It was a great day! I can't remember when I've had such a relaxing day and spending it with friends was perfection.

The trunk looks great! Those basketball player guys had an attitude. I should have told them that just because they look down on me doesn't give them the right to act like I'm crazy. LOL! Lisa~
